Our first true heatwave of the year is upon us... and the rest of this week isn't looking much cooler.
Sunday was the hottest day of the year so far. Red Bluff and Oroville hit 109, Redding 108, Chico 107, and Paradise 103. High pressure is starting to move eastward just a bit, which will allow our temperatures to cool... very slowly. By the end of the week, we'll be in the upper 90's. More substantial cooling will arrive this weekend. A weak disturbance will slide across the North State, pushing high pressure aside, and allowing our highs to fall into the lower 90's in the Valley, which is close to normal for this time of year. It also looks like the cooling trend will last into next week. There is still some debate about this, as a couple of our computer models aren't saying as much of a cool down, but I'm going to buy into it. We need some good news!
So keep your fingers crossed that the GFS is the correct solution. It usually is, and it'd be nice to see this heatwave end!
