Wet weather finally returned to the North State... but it won't stay long.
Tuesday night's storm should be long gone by Wednesday morning. About .20" - .50" of rain for the Valley floor, with most of the snow falling above 4000'... by the time the snow level drops to 3500', most of the precipitation will have passed. Mountain temperatures will drop below freezing in many areas, and with roads wet from the rain... that could lead to icy conditions. Drive safe.
A wet evening, with clearing skies after midnight will mean that Wednesday morning could see some fog, especially in the mountains. Fog should burn off before 10am, and yield lots of sun for both Wednesday and Thursday. Our next (and much bigger) storm will arrive Friday.
Friday's storm looks like the first true big winter storm of the season. Models are still suggesting about 1" of rain for the Valley floor. It looks like south winds will gust to 30-35 mph Friday. Snow levels look lower than Tuesday's storm. They should start around 3000'-3500' Friday, then lower to near 2500' Friday night, and it's possible Magalia could get their first snow of the season Friday night! Friday and Friday night don't look good at all for any kind of mountain travel above 3000'.
Saturday morning will be dry again... but not for long. Another storm should move in Saturday night. This one will be weaker than the Friday storm, but just as chilly! It doesn't have as much moisture either, so rain and snow totals will be lighter... but snow levels shouldn't change from Friday.
Both Sunday and Monday will be partly cloudy and dry... in fact, models say that after Saturday night's storm, we'll be dry through Thanksgiving! So good travelling weather.
But rain Tuesday night, all day Friday, and again Saturday night... old man winter has awoken!
