We squeezed out another day of sunshine Thursday, with mild temperatures. Nothing mild about Friday, however... we've got a big storm headed our way!
Rain and wind are what the Valley can expect Friday. Anywhere from 1/2" to 1" of rain... near 1" around Redding & Anderson, while near 1/2" around Willows, Colusa, and Marysville/Yuba City. Winds should gust near 35 mph, too, so a wet and windy Friday is coming!
In the mountains, it will be snow. The snow level should be around 3500', but it may vary a bit. The timing of this system favors lower snow levels, as it will be clear for much of Thursday night, allowing temperatures to get cold. The clouds arrive early Friday morning, trapping that cold air in mountain valleys, which could yield locally lower snow levels in Trinity and Siskiyou counties. Burney might see the same thing, but when the gusty south winds develop, they'll downslope off Burney Mt., and warm Burney up. But then the cold air from the storm arrives, and that should switch it back to snow there. Since Quincy is in a valley, I would think the cold air should get trapped there, too, and keep it a wet snow all day Friday. Friday night is when the real cold air arrives with this storm, but most of the wet weather will have passed by then. It should get cold enough for snow in Magalia, but there won't be much (if anything?) to squeeze out to get snow. So maybe under an inch for the upper ridge... and all rain for Paradise.
This storm will be gone by Saturday, and partly cloudy skies will prevail. Another storm will arrive early Sunday, but it looks a lot weaker and a bit warmer.
Thanksgiving week looks dry and warmer... good news for all the kids off of school!
But Friday's storm looks wet and windy. Be ready!
